METAMORPHOSIS

The world is in the midst of a metamorphosis:

 

·        The third industrial revolution is underway, moving the world from an industrial era based on natural resources into a knowledge-based era based on skills, education and research and development. Some of the technologies driving that revolution are: microelectronics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, robotics, man-made materials, and telecommunications.

·        The new communication technologies make possible and, may be, force a global economy.

·       Much of the world is moving away from communism and socialism toward capitalism.

 

We cannot yet see what the new world is going to be. In other words, we do not know which butterfly is going to emerge from the caterpillar.

 

All that forces changes on organizations and increases the complexity of management.

To be correct there is a chrysalis stage
between the caterpillar and the butterfly.
